The steering group for the Scottish Youth Housing Network meets six times a year. The majority of meetings are held in central Edinburgh at the offices of the Scottish Council for Single Homeless. Meetings normally last for around two hours. From time to time meetings are held outwith Edinburgh and are combined with visits to local projects in another part of Scotland. Members of the steering group are drawn from the network’s subscribers. Being on the steering group provides the opportunity to:
shape the agenda of the network’s training programme, conference, Info Briefings and Homing In newsletter;
identify gaps in good practice, in information, and in the understanding of both workers and young people’s views on housing issues and either directly through the network or through partnership work with other organisations see that these gaps are filled;
share information and ideas with others working with young people on housing and related issues;
develop innovative approaches to consulting and involving young people to ensure the network’s activity is informed by the views of young people.
Although attendance at steering group meeting is voluntary and no expenses are paid, a free place at the network’s annual conference is offered to steering group members.
