Commentary

The Housing Education Partnership aims to prevent youth homelessness in East Lothian. The partnership has developed a Leaving Home Pack and teaching materials for use with S4 students, currently delivered by it's members. In addition, presentations are made to S5/6 students providing information and advice on independent living, as preparation for student or working life and also to raise social awareness. To support these products, the HEP Coordinator arranges for partnership staff to address social education classes in East Lothian's six secondary schools.

HEP is currently developing a Power Point presentation to complement housing education in East Lothian schools. The multimedia presentation will include video footage and drama, and will feature local staff. Preparatory work is currently in the hands of recent S6 pupils from Ross High School, Tranet - where the original prize-winning materials were devised by an S6 committee in session 2000-01 - and senior pupils from various schools will take responsibility for several aspects through their PSE classes.
