Commentary

Shetland Council is currently working with the Shetland Youth Information Service to develop a service level agreement to fund them (through the homeless strategy) to go in to schools and deliver housing education along with housing staff. The Youth Information Service already deliver drug awareness/sex education classes.

Part of this work will also involve the Youth Information Service monitoring the resources used to make sure these are relevant to the Shetland context. Within tow years Shetland will have a tried and tested housing education package that is relevant locally. Then, teachers and housing staff should all be familiar enough with the resources to begin to deliver housing education on their own, perhaps with some training from Shetland Youth Information Service staff initially!?
